How I Got Here: The Path Behind Every Service We Offer

People sometimes ask why Baseline44 offers such a wide range of services — custom software, AI, cloud, mobile, consulting — instead of picking one lane. The honest answer is that the range reflects the path that got me here, not a marketing decision.

Where it started

My background spans large fintech companies, software startups, and direct client work — the kind of mix that forces you to learn fast, because the standards of each are different and none of them forgive sloppiness for long.

I contributed to the engineering team behind NUSAF IV, a social payments platform built for the Government of Uganda, disbursing social-protection funds to vulnerable households at national scale. That work is where reconciliation, audit trails, and failure handling stopped being nice-to-haves and became the actual job — when a payment fails, someone doesn't eat, and the system has to make that failure visible, not silent.

From there, I contributed to the engineering team that built an insurance platform for a bank-affiliated insurer in Nairobi — policy administration and claims processing for a business where turnaround time and correctness both matter, and neither can be traded for the other.

I also contributed to the engineering team behind an internet banking platform for a bank in Upper Hill, Nairobi — secure authentication, transaction processing, and the unglamorous admin tooling that actually keeps a bank's digital channel running day to day.

Alongside all of that, I built numerous AI-augmented systems — merging traditional software with AI wherever it genuinely removed friction, not because it was fashionable. That combination is what eventually became Baseline44: bringing government- and bank-grade engineering discipline to startups and SMEs, without the enterprise bureaucracy that usually comes attached to it.
